Edit PDF Metadata — Tidy the Info Left in a Document

PDFs store invisible information along with the content. The name of the person who made it, the program used, or an internal working title often remain and go out unnoticed.

This tool shows all the info recorded in the document and lets you edit or clear entries. You can also use it to fill in the title and keywords properly for better searchability.

Edited info is written to a new PDF. Page content is never touched, so there's no worry about the body changing.

Limits of this tool

  • It edits Document Info entries. XMP metadata that some programs leave separately may not be fully removed.
  • Personal info written as text within the body isn't metadata and isn't cleared by this tool.

How to use

    The title, author, subject, keywords, producer, and dates currently recorded in the file fill the input fields.

    Edit the entries you need directly, or use "Clear all" to wipe potentially personal items at once.

How are your files handled?

Both viewing and editing metadata happen in your browser. The values you enter are written to the file only when you save and are never transmitted.

Selected files open only in your browser's memory, and results are handed straight to your device when you save. Close the tab and any remaining data is gone with it. See the Privacy Policy and File Retention Policy for details.

Does clearing metadata damage the document?
No. Document info is stored separately from the body, so clearing it doesn't affect page content.
Does clearing everything make it fully anonymous?
Not necessarily. Some producers leave info in XMP form separately, and a name may be written in the body itself. For sensitive documents, check the content as well.
Can I change the creation date too?
The modification date updates to the save time. The creation date can be kept at its original value or cleared.
